When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific company. On their end, three records are created automatically when the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain address where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that handles the emails for that specific domain address. The website and the email hosting are usually thought to be one thing, when they're actually two different services. Having different records for them will allow you to have them with different companies if you want. As an example, some new company can have outstanding uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you can get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a site or send an email - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed website or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a Linux website hosting package from us, you'll be able to view, create and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. So long as a particular Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change specific records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails directed to another service provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool will enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain the slightest bit. If you choose to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with simply a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. Also you can set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is very easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are maintained using our in-house built Hepsia CP, which has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any troubles if you choose to direct your site or emails to a different company while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you can also create additional MX records and set a specific priority in accordance with the instructions of the new provider.
